In Loving Memory of Harold “JR” Lee McThay, Jr.
February 21, 1974 - May 3, 2025
 
JR McThay, passed away peacefully on May 3rd, 2025, at the age of 51, in San Diego, CA. He was a man who left a lifelong impression permanently on everyone he met whether it was through kindness, humor, or mischief. He had a presence that attracted others.

From winning a televised dance competition to making a music video with Snoop Dogg to skydiving, he had so many stories to share. He lived his life fully and fearlessly always doing whatever life called him to. He traveled many places, calling Japan, Thailand, and California home.

JR is survived by his son, Genesis, mother, Hiromi, girlfriend, Elly, and his “babies”, Scrappy and Ai-Chan. He is preceded in death by his father, Harold Lee McThay and best friend/“brother”, Nathaniel Acosta.

A celebration of life will be held late this summer. JR was never a fan of sadness and always embraced positivity and happiness. In his words, “I want everyone to party.” So let’s cheers to JR and down some Purple Kool-Aid in his honor.
