Wendy Gay

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wendy L Gay of San Diego (La Mesa) California. Wendy departed in the very early morning hour of March 17, 2025. Wendy was born and raised in San Diego. Her early childhood was spent in Linda Vista, a housing project built for WWII defense and government workers. Her family moved near the airport when she was a teenager. She graduated from San Diego High School and then San Diego State College where she met her first husband Don Guentner. Later she married Philip Gay who she would spend every second of every day with until his death in August 2024.
Wendy was a librarian at heart and loved books and reading books to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her passion was reading and providing literacy to young students. Whether she was acting as a librarian, classroom teacher, head of a county wide reading program or just providing birthday books to friends' children, you could always count on Wendy to have a book nearby.
She is survived by her children Jeff and his wife Melanie, Kevin, Chris, along with her step-children Susan, and Jonathan and his wife Misty. Additionally, she was extremely proud of her 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and community. The family is planning a celebration of life on April 13, 2025
