Judi Wepner
Judi Gail Wepner (Begun) died at her home in La Mesa, California on July 9, 2025, after a long illness complicated by memory loss. She was 82 years young. Judi was born on June 28, 1943 to Lionel and Victory (Moses) Begun in Chicago, Illinois. She was the second child and only daughter to bless the Begun's household.
Following her graduation from Niles West High School in 1961, Judi met and married her former husband Ed Schefris. They had two children Cynthia and David, .before they divorced.
Later, Judi remarried, and is survived by her husband of 42 years, Greg Wepner, 76, of La Mesa, CA, She is also survived by her son David Schefris of Las Vegas, NV, brother Jeffery Begun, of La Mesa, CA , step mother Phyllis Begun, of Anchorage, AK, step sister Linda Courtice, of Anchorage, AK, step daughter Yvonne Enselman, of Lemont, IL, grandson Ryan Schefris of Las Vegas, NV, two step grand children, daughter-in-law Lisa Schefris, of Las Vegas, NV, two nieces, one nephew, grand nieces , grand nephew and several cousins.
Judi was preceded in death by her father, Lionel Begun, mother Victory Barton, step father Don Barton, Daughter Cynthia Schefris, brother Tim Begun, and former husband, Ed Schefris.
She was very outgoing, interested in others, energetic and talented in arts and crafts. She enjoyed thrift stores and antique stores. A real people person, often volunteering to encourage and support worthy causes, both Christian and secular, to aid the less fortunate and the homeless.. Judi accepted JESUS the CHRIST as her LORD and Savior, 40 years ago, determined to follow him the for the rest of her life. Judi lived the first 46 years of her life in Northern Illinois, then fulfilled her dream, to live in California the rest of her days.
Her remains will be cremated and scattered at sea as were her mother's.
